Satchmo's hernia repaired!

Your donation will help Chicago Cat Rescue save more cats like Satchmo, Houston and Pandora in the new year. Read on for these kitties rescue stories.

This Spring a young woman was excited to move into a new apartment. She wasn't quite sure why a cat kept sneaking into the building and trying to enter the apartment with her until her neighbors told her he was left behind when the previous occupants moved. With the landlord threatening fines, this woman was determined to do right by this cat and find him a no-kill rescue which would lead to a forever home. Chicago Cat Rescue was that safe haven for Satchmo. In addition to getting him into a foster home, Satchmo had a hernia requiring medical attention that we addressed.

Rescue kittens Houston and Beau
Last August we were alerted to a kitten abandoned in the foyer of an unkempt building. Scared and alone, Houston came into the care of Chicago Cat Rescue and was paired with fellow adoptable kitten Beau in a foster home. The boys are the best of kitty friends!

Life is full of surprises and sometimes so is your car! Yes, little Pandora managed to find her way into a car engine and the car owner reached out to Chicago Cat Rescue for help.  Pandora is loving life in her foster home complete with three kitten playmates!

Happy Holidays from Chicago Cat Rescue!

As we look back on this past year, two words are at the forefront of our thoughts, for Community and Gratitude are at the heart of our struggle to end animal homelessness in our community.  We want to thank each of you for enabling Chicago Cat Rescue to be a catalyst for change, and for working with us to build a No Kill Chicago.  Together, one precious life at a time, we are making a difference.

CCR's work begins with rescue, and ends only after we have achieved the best possible life for each cat that comes into our care.  We are so grateful to those of you on the front line, restoring healthy bodies and spirits to our cats and kittens.  You are our rescuers, our veterinary professionals, and our foster families.  In countless other ways, our cadre of volunteers keeps our organization thriving and vibrant throughout the year.  Thank you, one and all.

There is agony and ecstasy in this work.  Sometimes, our work requires giving a creature with a broken body, like our Sonata, a better passing from this world, rather than being left to die on the side of a road.  More often, we have the joy of moving cats and kittens out of jeopardy into their forever homes.  Such was the case with our Slick.  Last winter, this young black male, covered with an oily substance and chilled to the bone, was delivered to CCR.  Only later, did we discover that this trusting cat was full of BB pellets as well.  Today, Slick is the picture of health.

At times, our challenges appear insurmountable, as seemed to be the case with mom cat Ceres and her kittens.  Born in the closet of a home occupied by addicts, three newborn babies were taken from their mother when their "caregivers" were evicted.  Despite a series of false leads, we tracked down these youngsters and reunited this family.  At times, the seemingly impossible becomes reality.

We are enormously grateful to our adopters, who support rescue in the most tangible of ways by adopting, rather than buying, your furry family members. You are the destinations of our cats' journeys, and we cannot thank you enough!

Chicago Cat Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster based, nonprofit organization. Our survival depends on your ongoing financial support, and we are eternally grateful to you, our donors, for enabling CCR to continue our life-affirming work. Whether you contribute monthly or at other times throughout the year, whether you donate to honor or memorialize a loved one, or if you engage your workplace to match your contributions, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

On behalf of each of the precious souls whose paths have intersected ours, WE THANK YOU.
